Readers of all ages will explore the night this summer as the Union County Library System presents “Dream Big–READ!” as its 2012 Summer Reading program.
“Follow Your Dreams” is the theme for this year’s kick-off celebration slated for 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 2 at Ard’s Farm Market, Lewisburg. Kids will be able to try their hand at carpentry, drawing, painting, magic and more! They’ll also have the opportunity to talk to local professionals, including firemen, police officers, and teachers, about how they followed their dreams.
Special Guest, Andy Russell, former Pittsburgh Steelers’ linebacker, will discuss how he not only followed his dreams of becoming a professional athlete, but also served his country and earned a degree in Economics.
Along with the kick-off celebration the libraries in the system—The Public Library for Union County, Lewisburg; Herr Memorial Library, Mifflinburg; and West End Library, Laurelton—will be hosting various activities throughout the summer including stargazing and moon lore, dreams and wishes, space exploration, nocturnal animals and even pajama story time and slumber parties!
The goal of the summer reading program is to encourage children of all ages to continue reading throughout the summer months and to offer unique, fun, family activities.
The 2012 Summer Reading Program is open to children in elementary through high school, as well as adults and families. Those interested in participating can register during the kick-off event or at their local UCLS library beginning June 4.
Keep checking the UCLS website for upcoming programs and special events happening throughout the summer at each of the libraries!!
